HOUSE STYLE

This NME magazine has many conventions and has various aspects I wish to adapt and use in my own music magazine. It also looks very professional and sets a good example so I would like it to be my House Style. Furthermore I have chosen a house style for my double page spread from a different music magazine called Q. As their are multiple aspects I wish to include in my magazine. As well as a front cover and double page spread I have taken inspiration from two contents pages one from NME and the other from Q magazine to help me create my music magazine.

Different Genre Music Magazines and their Similarities

This TOP OF THE POPS magazine is very bright and colourful and aimed at music in the charts for a younger audience. It is clearly designed to encourage the younger audience. Also the articles and language used are aimed at a younger audience. A noticable similarity between top of the pops and kerrang as well as NME is that their are very few spots on the page where their is any content, so text or images.

This is clearly a well known magazine as they don't mind covering up their masthead. Its theme sticks to using red, black, white and yellow. The font is quite solid and rugged linking it to the rock genre. Something that stands out with Kerrang is that their are multiple images beside the main one of the five band members across the top, as their are a further three main artists along the right as well as examples of pull out posters on the left.

NME is a highly popular music magazine as it is perfectly happy to cover their own masthead as they know the audience will recognise it even if it is partually covered. Like the other two NME is full of varios articles and has a big sell line taking up a third of the page. At the bottom their is a list of musical artists featured in the magazine and theese can also be seen on the right hand side. This is an idea i would like to take and use in my music magazine. In the top right their is a puff telling you about whats free inside and is in gold which is the same colour as the border. This magazine I belive I shall use as the HOUSE STYLE.

Survey Feedback - five things I learnt

1

50% of people buy magazines every few months

20% get them monthly which is probably through subscription.

30% Don't buy magazines at all

2

Only 25% would purchase the magazine if they were in sixth form, but gave it good feedback suggesting they liked the magazine but wouldn't buy it.

3

Most people said the front cover looked best between the front cover and contents as it showed more conventions of a college magazine.

4

The two conventions that stood out the most were the masthead and the main image as it was of good quality and the main focus on the front cover.

5

One of the main bits of feedback i recived was from another student in my class who said  '' with the clash of colours some parts made it harder to read the text''  This meant when looking at my final music magazine i began to look at what i could do to improve this, by putting layers behind the text to give it more clarity.
